Cellulose Ether for Construction – Tile Adhesive, Mortar, Putty & Plaster
If you make dry-mix mortars, the cellulose ether decides water retention, open time, workability and sag resistance long before the cement does.
Which cellulose ether does your dry-mix product need?
Below are the five construction applications we support – tile adhesive, wall putty and skim coat, cement mortar and render, gypsum plaster, and EIFS/self-levelling – with a clear read on how HPMC, HEMC (MHEC) and redispersible polymer powder divide the work inside a formulation.
HPMC, HEMC and RDP – who does what
HPMC
HPMC and HEMC are water-retention and rheology agents: they hold mixing water in the mortar so cement can hydrate, extend open time and make the paste easier to trowel.
View HPMC →HEMC (MHEC)
HEMC (also written MHEC) adds a higher gel temperature, which matters in hot-climate application.
View HEMC →RDP
RDP is a different tool – a polymer binder that redisperses in water to raise flexibility, adhesion and water resistance.
View RDP →Most modern formulations use a cellulose ether and a polymer powder together rather than one or the other.
How viscosity is quoted (and why the method matters)
Every viscosity comes in both NDJ and Brookfield, always with the test conditions – concentration, temperature, spindle and speed – so the number you check on arrival matches the one we shipped against. A grade that reads 100,000 by one method and a different number by another is not two products; it is one product measured two ways, and we make that explicit so your incoming QC matches ours.
- Both NDJ and Brookfield quoted for every grade
- Test conditions stated: concentration, temperature, spindle and speed
- One condition across the range: 2% solution, pH 7, 20 C, Brookfield at 20 rpm

Rather than publish a model-number table, this hub gives an application band; the on-page selector and spec sheet carry the exact grades.
Select by application, not by chemistry
Our selection guide is organised by what you are making, not by chemistry: tile adhesive, putty, gypsum plaster, self-levelling and rendering each have a recommended range, all quoted under the same test condition of 2% solution, pH 7, 20 C, Brookfield at 20 rpm.
We manufacture in our own plant inside a national-level chemical park in Wudi, Binzhou, Shandong: 68,000 m², 27,000 tonnes a year, 120 staff of whom 30 are qualified technical personnel. These are numbers you can verify on site, and visits are welcome.
From sample to bulk supply
Everything ships from our own plant. Cellulose ether and RDP come from the same quality system, so a mixed container of both is a single supplier and a single set of documents.
Select by application above, then request a sample or a quote. MOQ 1 tonne per product, mixed-container loading, and neutral packaging for your own brand.
