EIFS and self-levelling: two very different flow needs
EIFS/ETICS mortars and self-levelling underlayments pull a formulation in opposite directions. EIFS base coats need water retention, bond and flexibility on insulation board; self-levelling compounds need controlled flow and anti-segregation without losing surface strength.
Role of cellulose ether and RDP
The cellulose ether and RDP choice differs accordingly. In EIFS, a cellulose ether holds water for cure and an RDP raises flexibility and freeze-thaw durability of the base coat over foam. In self-levelling, a low-viscosity cellulose ether stabilises the mix against bleeding and settlement while keeping the high flow the application depends on.
