What RDP is and how it works

Redispersible polymer powder (RDP) is a spray-dried polymer, typically vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) copolymer, that redisperses in water to form a polymer film inside a hardened mortar. That film is what raises tensile adhesion, flexibility, cohesion and water resistance in tile adhesives, EIFS base coats, putties and repair mortars – the job a cellulose ether cannot do.

  • Tensile adhesion – the polymer film bonds where cement alone cannot.
  • Flexibility and cohesion – tile adhesives, EIFS base coats, putties and repair mortars.
  • Water resistance – the job a cellulose ether cannot do.

Self-produced for dry-mix mortars

Our RDP is self-produced (confirmed by management), made at our Wudi, Binzhou operation. The current reference grade is TR-503, a VAE-based powder with about 99.3% solids, bulk density around 504 g/L, pH ~7.1, ash ~11.8%, minimum film-forming temperature (MFFT) 5 C and glass-transition temperature (Tg) 0 C.

TR-503 reference grade – and how every figure is stated

Reference gradeTR-503TDS on file
Polymer typeVinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE), spray-dried

Bulk density~504 g/LTDS
pH~7.1TDS
Ash~11.8%TDS
Minimum film-forming temperature (MFFT)5 CTDS
Glass-transition temperature (Tg)0 CTDS

Tg and MFFT are the two numbers that decide an RDP, because together they tell you how flexible the film will be and whether it will form at all at your application temperature. TR-503 at Tg 0 C sits in the flexible half of the range.

Cellulose ether and RDP from the same plant

A dry-mix mortar asks two different things of its additives. The cellulose ether holds the mixing water and sets the rheology; the RDP builds the polymer film that carries adhesion, flexibility and water resistance. Buyers often source the two separately.

We make both here. One supplier to qualify, one quality system behind both, one document set, and both materials loading onto the same container. It also means that when a mortar misbehaves on site, the same technical team can look at the cellulose ether and the polymer together, rather than each supplier pointing at the other.
