Methyl Cellulose Applications – Construction, Food & Industrial

Methyl cellulose shows up in construction mortars (water retention and workability), ceramic extrusion (green strength and lubrication via thermal gelation), food systems (thermal-gel texture, thickening) and general industrial thickening.

Where MC is used

The common thread is MC’s reversible thermal gel and its water-retention capacity. In ceramics, MC’s gel-on-heating behaviour holds the shape of an extruded body until firing; in mortars it holds water for cure; in food it builds heat-set texture.

Application evidence. Our selection guide is organised by what you are making, not by chemistry: tile adhesive, putty, gypsum plaster, self-levelling and rendering each have a recommended range, all quoted under the same test condition of 2% solution, pH 7, 20 C, Brookfield at 20 rpm.
