The formulator’s three questions

A liquid-detergent formulator wants a thickener that builds viscosity predictably, keeps the system stable and does not fight the surfactants. Cellulose ether does all three when the grade is chosen for the system.

Cold-water dispersion and why surface treatment matters

Surface-treated HPMC goes straight into cold water and develops viscosity with a controlled delay, so it can be added on a cold wet-blend line without lumping – the single most common failure mode when the wrong grade is used.

Compatibility with the surfactant system

CMC provides anionic thickening and suspension and is often paired with HPMC for body and stability. Compatibility with your specific surfactant and electrolyte load is the thing to verify.

Dosage band and sampling

Every viscosity comes in both NDJ and Brookfield, always with the test conditions – concentration, temperature, spindle and speed – so the number you check on arrival matches the one we shipped against. Dosage is shown as a band; the working loading is confirmed on your formula. Run it in your own formulation – request a sample for a side-by-side comparison test.

We supply both non-surface-treated and surface-treated grades. The surface-treated version goes straight into cold water and develops viscosity with a controlled delay, which is what a wet-blend line needs.
